Why choose artificial plants for your indoor space?
We’re officially in ‘cosy up at home’ season and what better time to spruce up your indoor space and bring the outdoors in? Introducing plants to your interior doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg, you don’t even need to be green-fingered! Artificial plants open up your space and provide super stylish decor just the same as any living plant would. They are also hugely beneficial for a number of reasons which we’re touching upon here.
Which is which?
Artificial plants were unfairly given a bad reputation a few years back, but now with their rise in popularity for home decor, they’re looking as real as ever. If you invest in some good quality artificial plants, guests in your home will be convinced they’re real – you’ll even be second guessing them yourself! This makes the artificial plants blend in easily with any living plants you may have in your home.
For obvious reasons, artificial plants don’t need the same care and attention as real plants. Forget watering, feeding and repotting plants – to maintain artificial greenery all you need to do is a light clean every once in a while to get the dust off and keep them looking as good as new!
Faux flowers and plants have the same delicate look to them without the delicate nature. Living plants require all kinds of care and attention including careful consideration on their temperature, light source and humidity. Artificial plants can simply be placed down where they look best and remain sitting pretty forever! One tip though – if possible try to keep your artificial plants out of direct sunlight so they don’t fade or lose their vibrancy.
Artificial plants are free from any toxic chemicals found in some living plants that could be harmful to your pets or children if ingested. That means you can decorate your home worry-free! It’s also great having the peace of mind that you won’t need to sweep up soil and nurture your plant back to health should it be accidentally knocked over.
Fake it ‘til you make it
Of course there are some things in living plants that you won’t find in artificial plants like their natural scent or the fact that they are simply living. That doesn’t mean you can’t try some of our handy hacks to have your faux greenery looking (and smelling) as real as ever!
Just as you would with living plants, don’t be afraid to chop down some stems of your artificial plants so they fit your vase nicely.
When cleaning your plants, give them a little spritz with a floral or pine scented disinfectant spray so they hold the scent.
If you’re not too concerned about knockages, you can always pop a handful of real soil in the pot your plant lives in.
When using a clear vase, pop your artificials in some real water (provided their stems are a suitable material to be submerged).
Go wild with your choice of vase or plant basket – dare to be bold and choose a basket that really makes a statement – we promise, it’ll give your fakes a real glow up!
Lastly, don’t be afraid to mix and match! If you have existing living plants in your home or have been gifted some, place the two close to each other in your home.
