10mm clear toughened glass made to measure for our semi-frameless and post & handrail glass balustrade systems, for runs that cannot be set out with our stock-size panels.

Made to measure

Made-to-measure glass is priced per linear metre of run, rounded up to the next whole metre. Order the number of metres and send us your panel sizes, or send us your measurements and we will work them out for you. Made-to-measure panes take 3–4 weeks and are non-returnable unless faulty, so it is worth checking whether a stock size fits your run first.

The glass

Every panel is 10mm clear float toughened safety glass with polished edges and dubbed corners, manufactured to BS EN 12150. Toughened glass is heat-treated so that if it ever breaks it fragments into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards. Panels fit our stainless steel posts and D-shape glass clamps.

Raked panes for stairs are always made to measure and need a plywood template of each pane before the glass can be made.

FAQs

• Where is semi-frameless glass balustrade used?

  On low-level decking, garden terraces and patios where the drop is under 600mm, and where a modern look and an uninterrupted view matter. It is not a guarding barrier.

• How do I clean and maintain the satin finish?

  The satin stainless steel finish is low maintenance. We recommend periodic cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft cloth to remove dirt and contaminants. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads.

• How easy is the system to install?

  Installation is straightforward. Pre-drilled posts ensure accurate clamp positioning, and the system is designed for ease of assembly by competent DIYers or professional installers.

• Can the system be used in coastal or exposed areas?

  Yes. The Satin system is manufactured from 316 marine grade stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion and ideal for use in exposed or coastal environments.

• Can laminated glass be used in this system?

  No. The D-shape clamps on our post systems are made for 10mm toughened glass, so laminated glass isn't used with them.

• Is the glass returnable if the size is incorrect?

  No. As each panel is cut to order, glass is non-returnable once manufactured. To avoid errors, CAD drawings are provided for your approval before cutting.

• What is the maximum panel width?

  The maximum panel width between posts is 1100mm, using 10mm toughened glass in D-shape clamps.

• How is the glass secured in place?

  Glass panels are held using stainless steel ‘D’ shape clamps with protective rubber gaskets. This avoids the need for drilling into the glass and ensures a safe, professional finish.

• Do the posts come with fixings?

  All posts include a welded base plate, base plate cover, and glass clamps where stated. Ground fixings (such as bolts or anchors) are not supplied and should be sourced separately depending on the surface.

• Can this balustrade system be used on stairs?

  No. Semi-frameless is a low-level system for drops under 600mm and has no handrail, so it isn't used on stairs. For stairs, choose our Post & Handrail system.

• What type of glass is used in this system?

  The system uses 10mm toughened safety glass in clear, frosted, green, grey or bronze, with polished edges. Clear glass comes in stock sizes or cut to size; coloured glass is always cut to size. Every kit comes with a CAD drawing for approval before manufacture.

• Can the semi-frameless system be used as guarding?

  No. Semi-frameless has no handrail and is not a guarding barrier. It is a low-level system for drops under 600mm, which is the limit the post manufacturer sets. Where the drop is 600mm or more, choose our Post & Handrail system, aluminium balustrade or frameless glass.

• Can the black semi-frameless system be used on balconies or stairs?

  No. Like the satin version, the black semi-frameless system is a low-level system for drops under 600mm and is not a guarding barrier. For balconies, raised decks and stairs, choose our Post & Handrail system, aluminium balustrade or frameless glass.
