The Pro Pitch system combines a PVC frame with a powder-coated steel mesh infill. The posts are hollow rectangular single-chamber PVC sections with a minimum size of 100x50mm and 4mm wall thickness. The rails are PVC sections that slide into mortise holes in the posts. The mesh infill panels are welded steel mesh, white powder-coated for a durable, corrosion-resistant finish. All gate hardware — hinges, latches and drop bolts — is Grade 304 stainless steel, which will not corrode.

The whole system is bright white and will not fade, yellow, rot or corrode over its lifetime.

Double Mesh has welded mesh infill panels in both the upper and lower sections of each bay — between the top and middle rail, and between the middle and bottom rail. This creates a solid barrier through which the ball cannot pass. Mandatory at FA Steps 1-4.

Single Mesh has a welded mesh infill panel in the lower section only — between the middle and bottom rail. The upper section is open rail. Meets FA Steps 5-7 and all rugby levels.

Post & Rail has three horizontal rails and no mesh infill at all. It demarcates the boundary but does not retain the ball. Meets the FA Step 7 minimum requirement.

The Pro Pitch fence stands 1,100mm above ground level — this is the standard height specified by the FA, RFU and RFL for pitch perimeter barriers and is the height used at the vast majority of non-league grounds across the UK.

Posts are installed to a depth of 650mm — 500mm in concrete and 150mm in compacted soil backfill — giving a total post length of 1,750mm.

The Pro Pitch system is supplied in bright white only. This is the standard colour for PVC pitch perimeter fencing and is the colour required at FA Steps 1-4 where hi-vis plastic fencing is explicitly prohibited. The white finish is UV-stable and will not fade, yellow or discolour over the lifetime of the installation.

We do not currently supply the system in other colours.

The Pro Pitch system carries a 15-year product warranty against manufacturing defects, UV degradation, colour fade and structural failure. Full warranty documentation is provided with every order.

No maintenance is required. Unlike timber fencing (which requires annual treatment and eventually rots) or steel fencing (which requires repainting to prevent corrosion), the Pro Pitch system requires no ongoing maintenance whatsoever. An occasional wash down with a hose or pressure washer is all that is ever needed to keep it looking new.

This zero-maintenance characteristic is one of the most significant whole-life cost advantages over alternative materials.

Two standard gate sizes are available:

• Single gate — 1.5m wide: For pedestrian access. Fitted with Grade 304 stainless steel hinges and a latch.
• Double gate — 3.0m wide: For machinery and vehicle access — groundsman's tractor, maintenance equipment etc. Fitted with stainless steel hinges, drop bolt and latch.

Gates can be positioned at any point on the perimeter to suit your site layout. For a standard 11-a-side pitch we recommend a minimum of two single gates on the touchline runs and two double gates on the goal line runs for machinery access.

Posts are installed at 2,500mm centres as standard. This is the spacing used throughout the industry and matches the standard panel and rail lengths in the system. Rails slide into mortise holes in the posts with a 10-12mm thermal expansion gap between rail sections to accommodate temperature variation.

It depends on your FA step. In summary:

• Steps 1-4: A permanent infilled barrier is mandatory. The barrier must be 1,100mm high and prevent the ball passing through or under it. Double Mesh is required.
• Steps 5-6: A permanent fixed barrier is required. Infill is not explicitly mandatory but is strongly advised — particularly for clubs with promotion ambitions.
• Step 7: Post and rope is the minimum. A permanent fixed barrier is strongly recommended for any club expecting promotion.

No. Hi-vis plastic fencing is explicitly prohibited by name in the FA's Stadium Accreditation Criteria at Steps 1-4. If your club currently uses orange or yellow temporary plastic mesh fencing, it must be replaced before your next ground grading inspection.

The minimum setback distances specified in the FA's National Ground Grading Handbook are:

• Step 1: Minimum 2,250mm from the edge of the playing area (ideally 2,750mm)
• Steps 2-7: Minimum 1,830mm from the edge of the playing area

These distances are measured from the edge of the playing surface, not the pitch markings. When calculating your linear meterage, provide us with your touchline dimensions and the setback distance you want from the pitch edge — we will calculate the exact linear meterage of fencing required.

Yes — the Pro Pitch Double Mesh system meets the FA's requirements for all steps of the National League System when installed at the correct height (1,100mm above ground) and the correct setback distance for your step.

We provide a full specification document with every supply order that confirms the system specification, height, post spacing and installation method — suitable for submission to your County FA or the FA directly if required.

Yes — and it is usually the most cost-effective decision. Installing Double Mesh at Step 6 means your fence is already fully compliant for Steps 1-4 from the day it goes in. If you gain promotion, you will not need to replace or upgrade your fencing.

The cost difference between Double Mesh and Single Mesh is £4 per linear metre. On a full-size pitch perimeter of approximately 350 metres, that is a £1,400 difference at installation. Replacing a Single Mesh fence with Double Mesh on promotion would cost many times that amount.

Posts are installed to a depth of 650mm — 500mm in concrete and 150mm in compacted soil backfill above the concrete. A post hole diameter of 300mm is required. The hole is dug, the post is set vertical, concrete is poured and levelled, and the post is held plumb until the concrete sets.

As a general guide, a two-man team can install approximately 50-60 metres of fence per day including post setting and concreting. A full 350-metre pitch perimeter therefore takes approximately 6-7 days for a two-man team — typically spread over two weeks to allow concrete to cure between post setting and rail and mesh installation.

Yes. Posts are installed into the substrate below the artificial grass using the standard concrete method. The artificial grass is cut neatly around each post base after installation. We recommend confirming the substrate depth and specification with your AGP contractor before ordering to ensure the 650mm installation depth is achievable.

At 1,100mm height, pitch perimeter fencing generally does not require planning permission in England and Wales under permitted development rights — planning consent is normally only required for fencing over 2 metres in height. However, you should confirm this with your local planning authority before proceeding — particularly if your ground is:

• Within a conservation area
• Adjacent to or within the curtilage of a listed building
• On school, local authority or public land
• Subject to a restrictive planning condition from a previous application

The Football Foundation will ask you to confirm your planning position as part of any grant application.

Yes — the Pro Pitch system can be supplied in any quantity, including individual replacement sections. If your existing fence has damaged posts, broken rails or missing mesh panels, we can supply replacement components to match. Yes. The Football Foundation provides fencing grants of up to £25,000 — covering up to 75% of the total project cost — for grassroots football clubs where grassroots football is integral to the club, including at Step 7 and below. There is no preferred supplier list for fencing, meaning your club can use The Outdoor Look and still receive the grant.
