Our black spigot glass balustrade system holds toughened glass panels on square 316-grade stainless steel spigots, giving your decking, patio or terrace a clean, frameless appearance without posts or a base channel breaking up the view. Each spigot is powder-coated black over marine-grade 316 steel — the same grade as our satin option, so choosing black costs you nothing in corrosion resistance.
Installation is base-fix: every spigot bolts down through an oval base plate into a solid structural substrate, and a base plate cover conceals the fixings for a tidy finish. Fixing bolts are supplied separately, because the correct bolt depends on what you're fixing into — see the FAQ below.
Glass is cut to order — toughened in 12mm and 15mm, or toughened laminated in 17.5mm and 21.5mm — with each pane held on two spigots and panes available up to 1100mm wide. The right thickness depends on your fall height and whether you fit the optional top rail — our guide to spigot vs post & handrail glass balustrades walks through how the thickness rules work, and the team will confirm the specification for your project before anything is cut. Optional glass stiffeners are available where extra rigidity is needed.
Because every pane is made to order, custom-size glass takes around 3–4 weeks, with stocked panes in 3–10 days, and glass deliveries are scheduled in advance so offloading is safe. The system is designed in line with BS 6180:2011.
Prefer a brushed steel look? This kit is also available in satin. Need spare or additional black glass spigots or base plate covers on their own, you can order those separately. For a quote on your layout, send us your measurements through the quote form.

All components are designed to suit glass panels between 10mm and 21.5mm thick. This includes monolithic, toughened, and laminated glass, depending on the installation’s structural requirements.
Yes. Every part is manufactured from marine-grade 316 stainless steel, offering excellent resistance to corrosion, salt exposure, and UV degradation. Both the Satin and Black powder-coated finishes are tested for outdoor use.
Absolutely. The system meets the performance and durability standards required for domestic, public, and light commercial installations, including balconies, terraces, and stair balustrades.
No specialist tools are required. A standard Allen key set, torque wrench, level, and drill are sufficient. Always follow torque specifications provided in the installation guide to prevent over-tightening.
Clean regularly with warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. For coastal locations, a periodic rinse with fresh water helps maintain surface integrity and appearance.
We recommend using components from the same hardware collection (Black or Satin) to ensure proper fit and load performance. Mixing brands may affect alignment and warranty coverage.
Typically, two spigots per 1,000 mm panel are recommended for standard installations. For taller or wind-exposed balustrades, consult engineering guidelines or local building codes.
Only the finish varies — both use identical 316-grade stainless steel construction. Satin provides a brushed metallic look, while Black features a powder-coated matte surface for a modern aesthetic.
Yes. The adjustable spigot and stiffener designs allow for fine alignment after the
glass is in place. You can slightly reposition or level the panels by loosening the clamp and re-torquing it using a calibrated wrench to ensure correct
positioning and even load distribution.
Yes. When installed according to The Outdoor Look guidelines, all fittings and systems meet or exceed relevant UK standards for balustrade load performance and safety.
Each full kit includes spigots, cover plates, and accessories required for installation. Fixing bolts are not included and need to be purchased separately. The kit is designed for compatibility with 10–21.5mm frameless glass panels.
No sealing is required for the fittings themselves. However, silicone edge protection may be used between the glass and stainless-steel hardware in high-exposure environments for added vibration damping.
It depends on your fall height and whether you fit a top rail. As a rule of thumb from our guide: 17.5mm laminated toughened glass suits residential installations without a handrail, and 21.5mm is recommended for public or commercial settings; where a drop of more than 600mm is protected without a handrail, laminated toughened glass that stays in place if a panel fails should be used. The thinner 12mm and 15mm panes are toughened glass and suit installations where a top rail is fitted or fall heights are low; the 17.5mm and 21.5mm panes are toughened laminated. Read our full guide to glass thickness for spigot systems, and the team will confirm the right specification for your project before your glass is cut.
No. The correct bolt depends on the substrate you're fixing into — concrete, steel and timber all need different fixings — so bolts are supplied separately rather than bundled with a one-size-fits-all option. Contact the team and we'll point you to the right fixing for your surface.
This is a base-fix system: each square spigot bolts down through its oval base plate into a solid structural substrate, and a base plate cover clips over to conceal the bolts. There's no core drilling and no base channel to set into the floor.
A top rail is optional with this system. Whether you need one depends on your installation: under BS 6180:2011, a barrier protecting a drop of more than 600mm should have a handrail unless laminated toughened glass that remains in place if a panel fails is used. Fitting the optional rail can also allow a thinner glass specification. For anything safety-critical, confirm the requirements for your project with your builder or building control.
316 marine-grade stainless steel — in both finishes. The black version is powder-coated over the same 316 steel as the satin version, so the only difference is the coating, not the corrosion resistance. 316 is the grade recommended for outdoor and coastal use.
The spigot system gives you a frameless appearance — no posts and no visible frame around the glass — with the spigots as the only hardware on show. If you want a fully frameless installation with the glass set into a base channel and no fixings visible at all, see our frameless glass balustrade channel kit.
Two spigots per pane of glass, with panes available up to a maximum width of 1100mm. So divide your run into panes of no more than 1100mm and allow two spigots (and two base plate covers) for each — a 4-metre run split into four panes needs eight spigots, for example. Send your measurements through the quote form or call us on 01282 526428 and we'll confirm the layout for you.
