Post & rail has no mesh infill and does not satisfy the permanent infilled barrier requirement at FA Steps 1–4, nor the permanent fixed barrier expectation at Steps 5–6. It meets the absolute minimum at Step 7 only. For any club in competitive football above Step 7, or any rugby club with National League ambitions, single mesh or double mesh is the right specification. We would rather tell you that here than quote you for something that fails an inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we upgrade to mesh later?
Yes. All three systems share the same posts, rails, bay centres and foundations — the only difference is the infill. The practical constraint is that the rails must be drilled to take the mesh panels. If there is any chance you will want to upgrade, tell us at order stage and we will supply rails drilled for mesh at no extra cost, which makes a later upgrade a straightforward panel order rather than a rail replacement. Fitting mesh at installation is still cheaper than doing the job twice.
What does post & rail cost for a full pitch?
A standard 105 × 68m pitch with the barrier at a 2,250mm setback gives a gross perimeter of 364m. Gate modules are deducted from that, not added — two 3.0m doubles and two 1.5m singles take out 11.3m, leaving 353m of fence. At £77 per metre supplied and installed that is £27,181, plus £2,000 for the double gates, £1,000 for the singles and £500 delivery: £30,681 ex VAT. That is roughly £4,940 less than the same pitch in double mesh.
Can we get funding for post & rail?
Realistically, no. The Premier League Stadium Fund covers pitch perimeter barriers at Steps 1–6, and post & rail does not meet the barrier criteria at those steps. The Fund also does not fund work to meet Grade 7, which is where post & rail fits. The Football Foundation cannot fund pitch perimeter barriers at all. So a post & rail boundary is almost always club-funded, or funded through a County FA or local authority scheme. How long does installation take?
For a standard 11-a-side pitch of roughly 353m perimeter, a competent team of four with a mechanical post-hole borer typically completes installation over three days — posts on day one, concrete curing on day two, rails and gates on day three. Allow a minimum of 24 hours curing before loading the posts. Read the full installation method.
How does this compare to Duralock?
Both ranges are PVCu post and rail systems. Ours uses a 127 × 127mm post concreted into the ground, with bays at 2,500mm centres against 2,000mm on some competitors — fewer posts per pitch and less digging.
