Balcony Privacy Screens with Artificial Hedging

Overlooked by neighbours, or looking out at a car park? Artificial hedge panels turn open balcony railings into a dense green privacy screen. They block 90–95% of the view, fix to railings with cable ties and need no watering, so they suit balconies in flats, roof terraces and raised decks.

How to fix hedge panels to balcony railings

  1. Measure the length of each run and the height of the railings, then use the hedge calculator to get your quantity.
  2. Clip the tiles together on the floor to make a strip the length of each run.
  3. Offer the strip up to the inside of the railings and tie it at the top corners first.
  4. Fix with cable ties through the mesh backing along the top, bottom and sides, and at regular points across the panel. Exposed, windy balconies need more ties.
  5. Trim the backing with scissors around posts and at the ends, then brush the leaves over the joins.

Living in a block of flats? Many buildings have rules on what can be fixed to balconies. Check your lease or with your building management before you order. If a fire classification is required, talk to us first: only our Garden Hedge and Tropic Garden panels are fire-classified, and the classification applies when they are mechanically fixed to a non-combustible A1 or A2 substrate, not to open railings.

Balcony privacy screen FAQs

Will the panels blow away in the wind?

Not if they are tied securely. Fix along every edge and at regular points across the panel, and add more ties on high or exposed balconies. Loss of foliage caused by wind where a panel has not been fixed properly is not covered by the warranty.

Will it fade in the sun?

The foliage is UV-stabilised polyethylene, tested by SGS to ASTM G154 for 5,000 hours of UV exposure and rated 4 on the 1–5 grey scale for colour change. Every panel carries a 3-year warranty.

Can I fix it to a glass balustrade?

Hedge panels are designed to tie through to railings, mesh or a frame. Talk to us about your balustrade before you order.

Do you sell balcony balustrades too?

Yes. If you are replacing or upgrading the railings themselves, see our balcony balustrades.
