How our warranties work

Who is covered. Our warranties are given to the original purchaser and are not transferable, except where a section below states otherwise. If your installer or contractor bought the products, the warranty sits with them.

What is covered. Manufacturing defects in the materials we supplied — not the installation, not the structure underneath, and not damage caused after delivery. Each section below sets out exactly what that means for that range.

What we will do. If a claim is accepted, we will at our option repair the affected item, replace it, or refund the depreciated value of the materials originally purchased from us. We do not cover labour, removal, re-installation, hire costs, or any other consequential loss.

Depreciating cover. All our warranties depreciate by an equal percentage each year. Cover begins at 100% in year one and reduces proportionally each year until it reaches 0% at the end of the final warranty year. A 10-year warranty reduces by 10% a year; a 15-year warranty by 6.67% a year; a 5-year warranty by 20% a year; a 3-year warranty by 33.33% a year.

Installation matters. Every range is supplied with installation guidance. Failure to follow it is the single most common reason a claim cannot be accepted. If you are unsure about any part of the installation, contact us before you start — advice costs nothing.

How to make a claim

  1. Email info@theoutdoorlook.co.uk as soon as you notice the problem, and in any event within 30 days of discovering it.
  2. Include your order number and proof of purchase, the date of purchase and the date of installation, and a description of the fault.
  3. Send clear photographs showing the affected area, and a wider shot showing the installation as a whole.
  4. Do not remove, repair or replace the affected items before we have assessed the claim — doing so may mean we cannot accept it.
  5. We may ask for a sample, or arrange an inspection. Where an inspection is arranged, reasonable costs are charged at cost and are fully refunded if the product is found to be at fault.

This warranty is separate from your right to return goods. For returns, see our Delivery & Returns page.

Exclusions that apply to every range

  • Improper installation, or failure to follow the installation guidance supplied with the product.
  • Movement, settlement, distortion or collapse of the ground, substructure or supporting structure the product is fixed to.
  • Accidental damage, impact, misuse, neglect, vandalism, fire, flooding, storm or other acts of nature.
  • Normal wear and tear, and normal weathering.
  • Damage caused by harsh chemicals, solvent-based or abrasive cleaners, or cleaning methods we have not recommended.
  • Modification of the product, or use in an application we have not recommended.
  • Faults arising from improper handling or storage before installation.
  • Labour, removal, re-installation and any consequential loss.
  • Products not purchased from The Outdoor Look.

Aluminium balustrade

15 YEARS

Cover. The aluminium balustrade system is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for 15 years from the date of purchase.

Powder-coated finish. The powder coating is separately warranted for 10 years from the date of purchase against peeling, blistering and flaking. Fading, discolouration and gradual change of appearance from sunlight and weather are not covered.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Corrosion or finish damage caused by contact with dissimilar metals, cement, mortar or de-icing salts.
  • Damage caused by fixings other than those supplied or recommended, or by fixing into an unsuitable substrate.
  • Any installation where the finished guarding height, post spacing or fixing method differs from our published specification.

Coastal installations. Cover remains valid provided the surfaces are rinsed with clean fresh water at least every three months to remove salt deposits.

Depreciation: 6.67% per year. 100% in year one, reducing to 0% at the end of year 15.

Glass balustrade

10 YEARS

This section covers all four of our glass systems: semi-frameless, post & handrail, spigot, and the fully frameless channel system.

Metalwork and fittings — 10 years

Posts, spigots, clamps, channel, saddles, handrails, brackets and fittings are warranted for 10 years from the date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship, including structural failure of the component and failure of the finish.

Finish and grade. Black components are 304 stainless steel, powder-coated. Satin components are 316 marine-grade stainless steel, uncoated. Spigots are 316 in both finishes. Choosing the wrong finish for the environment is not a manufacturing defect: black powder-coated components are not recommended for coastal or poolside installations, and tea-staining or corrosion of powder-coated 304 in those conditions is not covered.

Glass panes — 10 years

Toughened and toughened laminated glass panes are warranted for 10 years from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects, including delamination of laminated panes and defects in the edgework.

Also excluded for glass, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Breakage after installation. Glass is inspected before dispatch and must be checked on delivery — any transit damage must be reported to us within 48 hours.
  • Spontaneous breakage caused by impact, point loading, thermal shock, or edge damage sustained during handling or installation.
  • Scratches, chips and surface marks arising after delivery.
  • Installation using a glass thickness below the specification for the fall height at that location.
  • Glass installed without the correct gaskets, wedges or setting blocks, or clamped directly against a hard surface.

Custom-cut glass. Made-to-order panes are manufactured to the sizes you approve before production. Cover applies to manufacturing defects only, not to sizing errors in an approved order.

Depreciation: 10% per year on both metalwork and glass. 100% in year one, reducing to 0% at the end of year 10.

Wire balustrade

10 YEARS

Cover. Posts, saddles, tensioners, fittings and stainless steel wire rope are warranted for 10 years from the date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship. All components are 316 marine-grade stainless steel.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Loss of wire tension over time. Wire rope relaxes in service and requires periodic re-tensioning — this is normal maintenance, not a defect.
  • Tea-staining or surface discolouration of stainless steel, which is a cosmetic surface condition removable by cleaning and is not corrosion.
  • Installation at a fall height above 600mm, or in any location where a 100mm sphere rule applies to the infill. The wire system is supplied with 132mm wire centres and is not suitable for those applications.
  • Damage caused by over-tensioning, or by tensioning against a post or structure not designed to carry the load.

Coastal installations. Cover remains valid provided all stainless steel surfaces are rinsed with clean fresh water monthly.

Depreciation: 10% per year. 100% in year one, reducing to 0% at the end of year 10.

Composite decking

10–15 YEARS

Warranty registration — required within 90 days

Composite decking cover is conditional on registration. Register your purchase on our Composite Decking Warranty Registration page within 90 days of delivery, giving your order number, the delivery date, and the decking range and colour as shown on your order.

If registration is not completed within 90 days of delivery, the warranty set out in this section does not apply. This condition applies only to the additional warranty cover described on this page. It does not affect your statutory rights, which are set out under "Your statutory rights" below and cannot be limited or excluded.

Where the decking has not been installed at the point of registration, register within the 90 days in any event. Once installation is complete, email info@theoutdoorlook.co.uk within 30 days with your registration reference, the date installation was completed, and photographs of the finished deck.

We will confirm your registration by email and issue a registration reference. Keep that email — we will ask for the reference if you make a claim.

This registration requirement applies to orders placed on or after the effective date shown at the top of this page. Composite decking purchased before that date is covered on the terms in force at the time of purchase, and does not require registration.

Uncapped composite decking — 10 years, residential only

Covered by a 10-year residential warranty against structural defects caused by manufacturing faults. Uncapped decking is not suitable for commercial installations and no warranty applies to commercial use.

Capped composite decking — 15 years residential / 10 years commercial

Residential installations are covered by a 15-year warranty against structural defects and against excessive fading or staining under normal use. Commercial installations are covered by a 10-year warranty under normal use conditions.

What "structural defect" means

Structural damage from fungal decay, insect attack, rotting, splintering, splitting or warping arising from a manufacturing fault in the boards we supplied.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Movement or damage caused by an inadequate subframe, insufficient joist support, poor drainage or incorrect ventilation. The substructure is not covered by this warranty, whether or not it was supplied by us.
  • Installation that does not follow our published installation guide — including, in particular, the requirement for a double joist at every butt joint, and the required expansion gaps at board ends and against fixed objects.
  • Staining or discolouration from external substances such as paint, oils, rubber mats, planters or harsh chemicals.
  • Surface scratches, abrasions, or fading from normal weathering and wear.
  • Use of non-approved cleaning products, including bleach and solvent-based cleaners.
  • Boards that have been painted or stained. Painting or staining composite decking voids the warranty.

Normal weathering

Light fading and some colour variation in uncapped decking during the first 8–10 weeks after installation is a normal part of the weathering process and is not a defect. Composite boards also expand and contract with temperature; installing with the correct expansion gaps accommodates this.

Coastal and poolside installations

Cover remains valid provided the recommended cleaning and maintenance schedule below is followed.

Maintenance

All installations: sweep regularly to prevent debris building up between boards; wash with warm soapy water and a soft-bristled brush every 3–6 months; always rinse thoroughly with clean water; avoid abrasive pads, wire brushes and harsh chemicals. Capped boards must not be sanded. Light sanding (60–80 grit) may be used on uncapped boards to repair scratches.

Coastal and poolside: clean all surfaces monthly to remove salt, chlorine and airborne contaminants; use mild soapy water and rinse thoroughly with fresh water; keep deck gaps clear for drainage and ventilation.

Through the year: deep clean in spring to remove winter residue and algae; protect against barbecue grease and furniture scratches in summer; clear leaves promptly in autumn to avoid staining; in winter use a plastic shovel for snow and avoid rock salt and chemical de-icers.

Depreciation: 10% per year on a 10-year warranty, 6.67% per year on a 15-year warranty. Cover is limited to the replacement or refund of the depreciated value of decking materials originally purchased from The Outdoor Look.

Artificial hedging

3 YEARS

Cover. Artificial hedge panels, screening and extendable trellis are warranted for 3 years from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects and against excessive UV fading under normal outdoor use.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Gradual colour softening and mellowing from sun exposure, which is normal for artificial foliage.
  • Slight variation in colour, leaf density or shade between panels, or between batches. Panels are hand-assembled and some variation is inherent.
  • Damage caused by heat sources, including barbecues, patio heaters, fireworks and cigarettes.
  • Damage caused by inadequate fixing, or by fixing to a fence or structure that fails.
  • Loss of foliage caused by high winds where the panel has not been fixed at the recommended number of points.

Fire performance. Fire classification is a certification, not a warranty. Only the Garden Hedge Green Wall Panel and the Tropic Garden Green Wall Panel are certified to B-s3,d0 under EN 13501-1:2018. No other panel in the range carries a fire rating, and this warranty does not warrant the fire performance of any product.

Depreciation: 33.33% per year. 100% in year one, 66.67% in year two, 33.33% in year three, 0% thereafter.

Artificial grass

5 YEARS

Cover. All artificial grass is covered by a 5-year residential warranty against excessive UV fading, manufacturing defects and premature wear under normal domestic use. A 2-year warranty applies to installations in commercial or high-traffic areas.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Poor sub-base preparation, inadequate drainage, or ground movement beneath the grass.
  • Chemical spills, and damage from heat sources — artificial grass will melt if exposed to barbecues, fireworks or cigarettes.
  • Flattening of the pile caused by heavy objects left in one position, or by failure to brush the surface.
  • Weed growth where no weed membrane was installed.
  • Slight variation in colour or shade between rolls or batches.

Depreciation

Year Replacement value
1 100%
2 80%
3 60%
4 40%
5 20%
6+ 0%

Maintenance

Brush the surface regularly with a stiff broom to keep the fibres upright. Rinse with water to remove dust and debris, and use mild soap and warm water for spills. Remove pet solids promptly and wash the area, using an artificial-grass-safe cleaner for odour control. Install a weed membrane at the time of fitting and remove any growth promptly. Avoid leaving heavy objects in one position for long periods, and keep heat sources away from the surface.

Norvale Sport pitch fencing

15 YEARS

Cover. The Norvale Sport PVCu system carries a 15-year product warranty from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects, UV degradation, colour fade and structural failure of the components we supply. All three variants — post and rail, single mesh and double mesh — carry the same term. Norvale Sport is a brand of The Outdoor Look Limited, and this warranty is given by The Outdoor Look Limited.

Installation. Cover depends on the system being installed in accordance with the Norvale Sport installation guide current at the date of purchase, including post embedment depth, foundation size and concrete specification. Keep a copy of the guide you worked to, and a record of who carried out the installation. We will ask for both if you claim.

Also excluded for this range, in addition to the general exclusions above:

  • Impact damage, including damage from vehicles, ground maintenance machinery and pitch equipment.
  • Damage caused by insufficient post embedment depth, inadequate concrete foundations, or installation that does not follow the Norvale Sport installation guide.
  • Damage from spectator loading, climbing, or use of the fence as a barrier for any purpose other than pitch perimeter containment.
  • Marking, scuffing and cosmetic wear from normal match and training use.
  • Alteration of the system, including drilling, cutting or attaching signage, netting, advertising boards or hoardings without our written agreement.
  • Damage from wind loading on anything fixed to the fence, whether or not we agreed to the fixing.
  • Ground grading and competition compliance. This warranty covers the product supplied. It does not warrant that a ground will pass any grading, inspection or league requirement.

Testing. Our manufacturer holds SGS test reports covering UV, high-temperature and low-temperature performance of its PVCu fence profiles, and an SGS audit of its production facility carried out in December 2025. Those reports relate to the samples tested and to the facility audited. They are held by the manufacturer rather than by us, they are separate from this warranty, and they do not extend it.

Change of club. This warranty is given to the original purchaser and is not transferable, with one exception. Where the fence remains on the same site and the purchaser changes only in legal form — a change of committee, an incorporation, or a merger of the club — we will transfer the remaining cover on written notice to us within 60 days of the change.

Depreciation: 6.67% per year. 100% in year one, reducing to 0% at the end of year 15.

Your statutory rights

These warranties are given in addition to your legal rights and do not affect them. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods supplied to a consumer must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and you have remedies against the seller if they are not. Nothing on this page limits or excludes those rights, or any other right you have that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

Where a warranty on this page gives you more than your statutory rights would, you may rely on whichever is more favourable to you.

General terms

These warranties are given by The Outdoor Look Limited to the original purchaser and are not transferable, except where a section above states otherwise. They cover only products purchased directly from The Outdoor Look Limited.

We may update these terms. Any change applies to orders placed on or after the date the updated version is published; it does not alter the cover on products already purchased.

These warranties are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
