Post & Rail has no mesh infill and does not satisfy the permanent infilled barrier requirement at FA Steps 1–6. It meets the absolute minimum at Step 7 only. For any club in competitive football above Step 7, or any rugby club aspiring to National League level, Single Mesh or Double Mesh is the correct specification. Can we add mesh to Post & Rail later?

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of the Pro Pitch system. The post and rail framework is shared across all three systems. If your club is promoted and needs to add mesh infill, or budget becomes available later, Single or Double Mesh panels can be retrofitted to existing posts and rails. Contact us to discuss the upgrade path for your installation.

Will Post & Rail pass a Football Foundation grant inspection?

Post & Rail is eligible for Football Foundation funding as it is a permanent, fixed pitch perimeter barrier. However, if your club is at Steps 1–6 and requires an infilled barrier to pass ground grading, a Post & Rail system alone will not meet that requirement. We recommend discussing your ground grading requirements with us before specifying the system for a grant application.

Is Post & Rail better than timber post and rail?

Significantly. Timber post and rail requires regular treatment, painting and replacement as it rots, warps and discolours. The Pro Pitch PVC system is maintenance-free for 15 years — no painting, no treatment, no rotting. The bright white finish does not fade or yellow. For any club replacing old timber fencing, the Pro Pitch Post & Rail is a significant upgrade in appearance and longevity at a comparable or lower whole-life cost.

What’s the difference between this and hi-vis orange fencing?

Plastic hi-vis fencing is a temporary solution not considered suitable for permanent pitch perimeters at Steps 1–6. It degrades in UV, requires annual replacement, and is explicitly prohibited by the FA at Steps 1–4.
