Aluminium balustrade stair brackets let your rails sit at an angle so the railing can follow the pitch of your stairs. Where standard brackets hold rails horizontally, these stair brackets pivot to match the slope of your steps, so your balustrade runs neatly down a staircase between the top and bottom posts.
To fit a balustrade to stairs, position a post at the top and bottom of your stair run, then use the stair brackets to connect the rails at the angle of your steps. Measure your stair run along the slope — post to post, following the pitch — rather than horizontally. Each pack contains 2 top rail brackets and 2 bottom rail brackets — one pack per bay. If a run is longer than 1829mm clear between post faces, you'll need additional posts along it, which adds a bay and so another pack.
The brackets are finished in black powder-coated aluminium to match the rest of the system — rust-free, low-maintenance and built for year-round outdoor use.
Note that stair brackets are for angling rails down stairs. For horizontal corners that aren't 90° (such as an angled deck corner), you'll need swivel brackets instead.

Yes. They're powder-coated aluminium, so they're rust-resistant, UV-stable and built for year-round outdoor exposure in UK conditions. Rinse down twice a year with warm soapy water, check and re-tighten screws occasionally, and in coastal areas rinse monthly to remove salt build-up. Avoid pressure washers and harsh chemicals.
The stair brackets let your aluminium balustrade rails sit at an angle so the railing can follow the pitch of your stairs. Standard brackets hold rails horizontally; the stair brackets pivot so the rails run neatly down a flight of steps between your top and bottom posts.
Fit a post at the top and bottom of your stair run, then use the stair brackets to connect the rails at the angle of your steps. The stair brackets pivot to suit standard domestic staircase pitches, following the angle of your steps. For unusual or very steep angles, or if you'd like us to check your measurements, please use our quote form.
No — stair brackets are for angling railsdown stairs(following the vertical pitch). Swivel brackets are different: they're for horizontal corners that aren't 90° (such as an angled deck corner). If you're turning a non-right-angle corner on the flat, you need swivel brackets, not stair brackets.
Three different jobs.
- Fixed brackets hold the rails horizontally on level runs.
- Stair brackets let the rails sit at an angle so they follow the pitch of a staircase.
- Swivel brackets let the rails turn a horizontal corner that isn't 90° — an angled deck edge, for example. If you're going down steps you want stair brackets; if you're turning a non-square corner on the flat, you want swivel brackets.

Is this balustrade compliant with UK building regulations?
It's designed in line with BS 6180:2011, the British Standard referenced for barriers under Approved Document K. The finished guarding height is 1100 mm and pickets sit at 96.5 mm. Compliance on your own project also depends on the fixings and the surface it's installed into, so it's worth confirming the requirements for your setting. For communal, commercial or public areas, higher load classes apply — speak to us or your building designer first.
How high is the balustrade, and is the gap child-safe?
The finished guarding height is 1100 mm, and pickets are spaced at 96.5 mm so a 100 mm sphere cannot pass through — meeting the gap requirement for domestic guarding.
Has the balustrade been load tested?
Yes. Our manufacturer has tested a rail section of this system against a horizontal line load of 0.36 kN/m — the domestic single-family figure — along with the infill point and distributed loads, all held without deformation. A further programme of testing is under way, including higher load classes for communal and commercial settings. How far apart can the posts be?
The maximum span between posts is 1829 mm. Runs longer than that need additional posts along them to stay within the maximum and keep the balustrade rigid.

A Great product, price and service from this company. We needed a flexible method of balastrading our new decking.
The web site and on line calculating tool was easy to navigate and use.
Each component was well packaged.
Instruction video on their website was very helpful along with instructions supplied with the units. If you diy, you will be comfortable with ability, assembly and fitting.
Delivery was super quick.
I used a mitre block and hacksaw for square cuts. Packers are supplied to ensure post are vertical. Materials are all aluminium so no rusting. M10 posts bolts will need to be purchased seperately.
We have no hesitation to return as a customer and pass on our recomendation.

Love the balustrade, very well made. No rough edges, lovely black powder coated finish with smart trim finishings.
Solid production throughout and looks very sleek on our new split level garden. Mounted it onto a stone supporting wall using threaded bolts set in resin, very strong installation giving reassurance between the two levels.

Good customer service and great looking product. For DIY enthusiasts a chopsaw is a must and take time to ensure the rail brackets are fitted to the post centrally.

WOW what a great company to deal with ! From start to finish it have been impressed. Needing a powered coated balustrade i originally went to bespoke manufacturers and was shocked by the price and installation costs. I then researched online DIY and self installation kits and found The Outdoor Look. Communication was outstanding with 1 to 1 feedback on my measurements, help and instructions on installation. The quality of the products are first class and I personally found installation so easy, you just need to read instructions and take your time .
