Side Mounted Glass Balustrade

Side mounted glass balustrade, also called side fix or fascia mounted glass balustrade, fixes its posts to the face of the structure instead of on top of it. It keeps the full width of a deck, balcony, landing or stair clear, with nothing standing on the walking surface. Our side fix posts, handrail and fittings are 42.4mm round in brushed satin 316 marine-grade stainless steel.

How the side fix system works

Each side fix post is 1178mm long and fixes to the face of the structure through its lower section, leaving 978mm above floor level. A saddle on every post top carries a continuous 42.4mm handrail, giving an 1100mm finished height on level runs. 10mm toughened glass, 900mm high, sits between the posts, which are set at up to 1200mm centres. The system is designed in line with BS 6180:2011.

Side fix posts

• End posts start and finish every run, with 2 glass clamps fitted.
• Mid posts sit between panels, with 4 clamps.
• External corner posts turn a run around an outside corner, such as the corner of a raised deck, and come with an external corner wall bracket.
• Internal corner posts turn a run around an inside corner and come with an internal corner wall bracket.

Fixings are not supplied, because the right fixing depends on what you're fixing to.

Handrail, fittings and glass

The handrail, fittings and glass are the same satin parts used on our surface-fix post & handrail system, so they're listed here too. The handrail is 42.4mm stainless steel tube in 5800, 3000, 1500 and 1200mm lengths, joined with in-line connectors. Level posts take a fixed saddle and stair posts an adjustable saddle. Open handrail ends finish with an end cap or a 90° scroll end, or with a wall flange where the rail meets a wall.

We use stock glass widths from 300mm to 1100mm wherever your run allows, dispatched in around 7 working days. Cut-to-size, tinted and stair glass takes 3–4 weeks.

Why satin 316?

Side fix posts sit on the outside edge of the structure, where they take the weather. Satin 316 is uncoated marine-grade stainless steel, the finish to choose near the sea or around pools, made to last decades with occasional cleaning.
